Chapter 28 – Artifact (2)
Demi’s POV
‘Why does she have Ephyl’s necklace?’ Nova said whilst staring at Natalie’s keychain.
“Ephy- who?” I asked. No one heard me talking to Nova since my voice was somewhat muffled by the mascot head.
‘Ephyl’s necklace, she’s not supposed to have it.’ I looked at Natalie’s keychain which was dangling on her phone case. It was a gold chain with a small blue diamond in between two snakes. Their mouths were wrapped around the blue gem as if trying to eat it.
‘And what does it exactly do, for you to react that way?’
‘It’s…my sister’s necklace.’ Nova said in a serious tone.
I stared at the keychain once again…’ So it was necklace.’
‘Ephyl entrusted it to me when she was in her death bed. I hid that necklace to the point that even I don’t know where it is exactly...’
‘How does she have that?’ Seeing Nova act this serious was odd for me. The first thing in his mind is food and orbs. Seeing how he reacted to the necklace, it must have reminded him of something terrible.
‘Demi…I think we should be cautious around Natalie.’
‘Is the necklace something we have to be scared about?’ I asked. Nova was reacting seriously to this that I had to stop and think about it. This fluff ball has never been this serious.
‘Well…the necklace isn’t scary, but the people who obtain it…is.’
‘That necklace was entrusted to me, and after all hell broke loose in our realm…’ Nova went silent after that. I didn’t want to ask further questions since it seemed like he wasn’t comfortable sharing it…It’s as if he was still in pain.
I don’t know how long ago the tragedy happened to his family, but what I know is that his wounds were still fresh.
‘This must be the reason why we’re unable to feel any orbs from her.’ I speculated that the reason for the missing orbs was because of the pendant. I still don’t know what the pendant really does, but it might be the reason why Natalie doesn’t provide energy orbs anymore.
‘It might be…but where did all my energy go if my creation doesn’t have it?’ Everything around us is basically made from Nova’s energy. I compare it to an atom, it basically builds up everything inside this reality.
And in the same sense, it’s impossible for an atom to suddenly disappear. His energy can’t be gone from this realm, especially from the characters since Nova paid more attention to them.
‘That’s why she’s dangerous…I get this ominous feeling about her.’ Nova said whilst shivering. I looked back at Natalie who was leisurely talking to one of her simps.
‘What do you want to do?’ I asked Nova as I give out the fliers in my hands. I wasn’t sure as to what our next move is. I would prefer it if we just stay out of it and take precautions if there were any events that could harm both of us.
‘We need to get that pendant, and we need to know how she got it.’ And of course. My and Nova’s thoughts aren’t in unison with this matter.
‘Maybe we could also find the reason how Yvonne contacted us.’ Nova continued. I wanted to ask him further on what the necklace does, but it seems to have painful memories linked to the pendant so I hesitated.
‘And how the heck do we snatch that pendant?’ I asked bewildered. That thing was stuck to her bag, and if I remember correctly, Natalie seems to like that specific bag ‘so much’.
That was the only bag she used based on my observations. I thought of it as her being humble at first, but when I noticed how she was protective of it at times, it made me skeptical.
‘I’m good with aiding but not stealing.’ I was good with determining diseases, holding a scalpel, assisting, paperwork, speaking, and over-working. But my skill set never offered snatching or anything related to stealing from anyone.
‘We’re basically not stealing. Think of it as…getting back what was mine.’ Since that necklace was not hers in the first place, Nova put it in a way that I can accept the task.
‘*Sigh* Let’s say I agreed with snatching it…I still have no g*damn idea on how to take it, Nova. I’m a doctor, not a con-man.’ Unfortunately, even if I went to steal the pendant, I would be caught in no time.
I’m not agile nor am I good at conning and snatching stuff, I can maybe come up with ideas, but I lack the skill to actually execute it.
‘It’s not like you can lift stuff that heavy already.’ It would’ve been easier if Nova’s influence in this realm was stronger, because a lot of things would become easier.
‘Well, I’m as good as a ghost.’ Nova said and looked at himself. He could interact with stuff, but only to a level that he won’t pass through walls or floors. He could simply sit on my palm or head and I’d only feel a slight breeze of air without weight.
He’s honestly a feather, no – he’s lighter than a feather.
We continued to think of ways on how we’d snatch it from her purse and continued to give away fliers at the same time. And even though it was winter, I still find myself sweating inside the mascot like I run 10 miles even though I just walk around.
I sat down on an isolated bench when my round was finished. I decided to take a break and sit first before going back to our booth and shifting roles.
It was my luck that I rested near the senior’s section and found none other than the male lead roaming around. He was checking in on the booths with the secretary and listing things down.
That was when I came up with a genius idea when I saw him.
‘Lucas, we can use Lucas!’
