Chapter 26 – Letter

Chapter 26 – Letter

Demi’s POV

“Mama is okay Belle, so stop crying now.” I looked at the pair of mother and daughter on the living room couch. I don’t know exactly when this scene is happening, but from the woman’s bruise, I’d say 5 to 10 days.

The bruise was yellowish with green and was located right under the woman’s left eye.

“You don’t have to cry anymore.” The woman said, it was then that a boy entered the balcony with books in hand.

“Huh? What happened mom?” The small victor was about to greet her when he saw the bruise. It seemed that he hasn’t visited the woman in days since he didn’t see the bruise.

“Did Yvonne do that again? Seriously, I can’t with this girl.” Victor said. He assumed that it was Yvonne’s fault which made my eyebrow frown a bit.

‘Looks like the shameless blaming was present early in their childhood.’ I thought to myself and looked at the trio.

I was focused on the scene and soon realized that a small little girl was staring at me intently which made my skin crawl.

Young Yvonne stared at me without blinking. I didn’t know if she was glaring or just out of it but we’re not breaking eye contact. The little girl started mouthing something which was hard to understand.

It took me a few moments before understanding and processing what she just mouthed to me.

“Behind you.” I turned around and saw the glass table adorned with white metal ornaments. There was a large brown envelope with a red seal. I tried looking closely and saw that the pretty seal stamped on the side had an elegant style.

The stamp had a dove symbol accompanied by the letter H. I placed my hand on the brown envelope and opened it only to see a letter inside. I know that I was prying, but I also know that there’s a reason why the young Yvonne pointed the letter out.

“Dear, Ana

I’m faring well, the men here are treating me fairly and I’m eating properly as well. I’m ecstatic to know that you liked the poem I have sent you.

Regarding the date of my release, I asked Mitch of his progress and he had said that he’s working through the loops that the families put on me was tough. He’s trying his best and is looking into any holes in the statements of the said witness that appeared earlier this week in court.

I honestly don’t feel injustice knowing that you’ve kept your trust in me all this time. I know that it has been years since we last talked, but I just wanted to let you know that you have given me strength once again.

Although we have ended things between us, do know that I still cherish the memories that we shared and all the things we’ve experienced together. Ending it between us was the best choice we had, and it was for our ch-

I couldn’t finish the letter when I heard a loud scream from behind.

“MAMA!”

“MOM!”

The woman, Ana, fell on her side clenching her chest and was having a difficult time breathing. I immediately ran towards the woman’s rescue because of instinct, but I was suddenly reminded that I couldn’t interact with them.

I tried to check the woman’s vitals and my hand just went through her.

The small Victor stood up and ran inside to call for help whilst the small Yvonne stood there…unmoving.

“Her time is almost up.” What she said made my spine tingle and the look on her face was even more horrifying…it held no expression whatsoever.

Just moments earlier when the young Victor was here, she had a worried and shocked expression but when he left, she turned to my direction and spoke.

“You need to find it before it’s too late, the old man kept it in his safe.” She told me with a straight face.

“He plans on burning it together with mom’s other documents.”

“YOU NEED TO FIND IT.” She emphasized her last words before the surroundings started to blur and soon, the familiar yet painful headache followed suit.

“Ugh, goodness.” I still can’t get used to the heavy pain I feel whenever I dream of Yvonne’s memories.

“What is it. What is it?” Nova was ready sitting on my side with a small notepad and a pen in hand.

When I had explained to him what happens during the dreams I have, we concluded that it was indeed Yvonne talking to us and showing us her memories.

A lot of the things she says checks out and we started recording the dreams I have every night since then.

It has been two days after the incident in the entrance and the whole mansion became quiet. The servants weren’t particularly sure of what happened but they know what the atmosphere was between me and Michael.

I haven’t seen the neither Michael nor Victor for two days now and I think they’re purposely avoiding me.

“About a letter. A brown envelope with a stamp on.” I said slowly as I tried to remember what the dream held.

“What was the stamp’s design, what was the letter about?!” Nova asked as he jotted down in his notes.

“The stamp has a bird, I can’t remember what bird, and it’s attached to a fancy letter H.” I answered immediately when I remembered.

“Where were you, who were you with?”

“Balcony! With Yvonne, her mother, and another person.” I answered again.

I didn’t know that this small precaution would soon turn into a routine.

I tried my hardest to remember the contents of the letter but could only bring out the words “Court”, “Mitch”, and “Witness”.

“Oh! Yvonne said that Michael’s going to burn something! I don’t know what or why by we must get those things before he burns it.” I said.

“What things?!” Nova asked.

“I-I don’t remember.” I said. Seems like that was the capacity of my memory. We pondered for a while on what the things were and when Michael would burn it.

The hour-long question and answer we had was put to stop when I noticed the time. I astill have a small amount of time before I run late to school. I remembered that I still had to set up the stall.

I was scurrying along when I saw the now purple bruise on the right side of my face. My lips had dried blood and part of my check was colored purple.

I covered it with makeup yesterday but I didn’t have enough time today to do it so I asked Nova to try his best to hide it and do whatever just to lessen it.
