Chapter 22 - You can’t decide what’s important for other people

‘This fucking bitch.’ The girl thought to herself as she opened a pink bag that was sitting under the table.

The girl saw a wallet, sanitizer, pen, and paper. There was nothing other than that and it made her frown even more. She grabbed the black wallet and opened it to see 10 bucks in cash and no cards other than her I.D.

‘Is this even her bag?’ The girl searched and couldn’t find anything of importance other than her wallet, it didn’t even have any cards in it.

‘This’ll do.’ The girl took out the wallet and the pink keychain with Yvonne’s name hanging from the pink bag and stood up. She looked around and walked away before anyone could see her. The girl came at a right time where the cells were empty and the prison booth was on break.

‘That’ll teach you to stay in your place.’ The girl, with a stack of cash in her hands stolen from who knows where. She busted the vault door open with ease and took important documents from there, before leaving the office, she purposely left the keychain on the ground with Yvonne’s wallet..

.

.

I walked towards our booth to get the list and tally the funds earned for the day. I went to the bathroom earlier in a rush after reaching the jail booth.

‘You had too much sweets.’ Nova said resting in my pockets and eating candies which caused my pockets to bulge and move around every now and then. His face filled with food reminded me of a hamster.

‘I really wish I can eat as much as you without getting my stomach upset.’ Although my appetite in regards to sweets is large, it’s incomparable to Nova’s stomach.

I sometimes wonder where all the food goes with that little body of his. I felt somehow jealous that Nova didn’t get any problems when eating in large numbers.

‘That’s a perk of being a creature like me.’ He said proudly as he munches down on more candies. I returned to the table to get the list and finally tally the total funds when I notice something weird.

“I didn’t put this here.” I picked up the pink bag that was now facing flat on the ground under the table. I remembered neatly putting it on the foot of the table before rushing to the toilet. I left it here since I didn’t really have anything important inside the bag other than ten bucks and an old I.D card of Yvonne.

‘Thankfully I brought my phone and my I.D with me.’ I thought to myself as I held my phone, well, Yvonne’s phone.

As I was contemplating on the situation, Nova hopped out of my pockets and onto the table and started sniffing on the pink bag. Nova stood for a moment and looked back at me.

‘Someone went through your stuff.’ His usually jolly face turned blank and Nova’s eyes went round.

I immediately opened the zipper of my bag to see my wallet and my keychain attached to it, gone. We fell into silence and looked at each other.

“Pft.”

‘HAHAHA’

Nova laughed like a maniac whilst I thought of the situation funny. I don’t know if it’s because I’m used to having nothing or I’m just numb to the situation, but I don’t feel the slightest bit regretful at leaving the pink bag here and missing the wallet.

I’m sure if the one who stole the wallet thought I’d have thousands of dollars, I was Yvonne after all, known for spending thousands of money on stuff she impulsively buys.

‘I wouldn’t blame the guy who stole it.’ Since he only stole ten bucks’ worth of money and Yvonne’s old I.D.

‘Hmm, it’s a woman though, not a guy who stole it.’ Oh, a woman.

‘How do you know?’ I asked Nova while still wondering what had happened to the wallet.

‘Smell, male humans have a more aggressive scent than human women.’ Nova continued to explain that everyone has a unique scent to them and it works like an identity.

‘That could’ve been helpful when we needed it.’ I could’ve asked him to track down the person ruining my stuff or made him track down an object or two. It made me question as to why he only said it now.

‘I only said it now because I can finally use it, do you know how much I was disoriented when I first came to the human world? I had to turn my smelling sense off for a meantime.’ Nova explained. It did answer my question, but it made me ask another.

‘You told me you made this reality and wrote it like a book based on Earth, but sometimes, you act as if you know nothing of how it works.’ I looked at Nova with an unreadable expression on my face. I was starting to be skeptical of what he says when he contradicts himself in certain times.

‘That... I.’ Nova stuttered and his expression turned nervous.

Before I could even question the little fluff any further, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see Natalie behind me smiling.

“You seem to be troubled?” Natalie looked at me worried when she came closer.

“Ah, no. Something just went missing.” I pointed at the pink Ch*nel bag.

“What? Wait, what did you lose?” Natalie’s eyes went round and she panicked for a moment.

“Nothing important.” I said. The 10 bucks wasn’t really a loss for me, I’ve got a lot more shit stolen from me in my past life, I’m not new to it.

“We have to tell a professor so you can find it.” She said and started looking for a staff member around.

“No, it’s fine.” I said as I put the pink bag under the table and took out my tallying paper.

“What do you mean? But you just lost your stuff.” She acted more devastated than I was, as if it were her stuff that was lost.

“It’s not of importance so it’s fine.” I replied once again.

“You just lost something important, how can you just let that go? We’ve got to at least report it.” She insisted and walked in front of the table and came close.

“Thank you for worrying but it really wasn’t important.” I arranged my tallied amount and did the math to get the total whilst I continued to talk with Natalie who seemed to be agitated.

“How can you be so nonchalant? You should search for it.” Natalie was getting persistent at this point so I sighed and stopped what I was doing.

“Natalie.” I stopped writing on the paper and looked at her in the eye.

“You can’t decide what’s important for other people.” I don’t like people getting deep into my business and I specially don’t like repeating myself.

I don’t know why she was acting like this, being pushy all of a sudden. I know she’s got a knack for justice and shit but not to the point of insisting someone to take action.

“Thank you for worrying though.” I didn’t want her to misinterpret my words so I thanked her for worrying. Most people take my words personally and I didn’t want that to be the case when it came to Natalie, I wouldn’t want my head flying off after all. (A: She’s referring to the male leads)

“I-I’m sorry.” After much silence, Natalie stood awkward and apologized to me.

“You don’t have to apologize, just help me this.” I said and raised the paper in my hands reminding her to do her job with me.

“Ah, yes…of course.” She must’ve felt embarrassed from her sudden burst but it all went down and we returned to our responsibilities.

'What's with her?' I thought to myself as I continued my work. Natalie's acting weird all of a sudden as if she's done something.

'What would a female lead do anyway?' I thought to myself again. It's most probably because of Benedict, something must've happened between them earlier when I left. In the end, I just brushed the thought off and continued to finish my word whilst having Natalie look nervous next to me.
